Prof. Abdoul SOGODOGO holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the School of Politics and International Studies at Central China Normal University (CCNU), Wuhan, obtained in 2017. He has been a Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Bamako since 2010 and played a key role in establishing the Faculty of Administrative and Political Sciences (FSAP) at the University of Legal and Political Sciences of Bamako, where he currently serves as Vice-Dean.
Prof. SOGODOGO spearheaded the development of several innovative master's programs, including Political Science, Electoral Engineering, Human Rights and Peace Culture, and Gender and Development. He also contributed to the creation of the FSAP research center, the Governance, Societies and Security Laboratory (LaGoSS).
As a consultant, he has led major studies on political parties, traditional justice systems in the G5 Sahel countries and Senegal, and the role of the rule of law in post-conflict reconstruction in Mali.
A committed civic leader, he engages actively in youth and women's empowerment initiatives, promoting democracy, citizenship, and sustainable development.
Fluent in French, English, Chinese, and Moroccan Arabic, Prof. SOGODOGO is the author of numerous academic publications focusing on democracy, electoral processes, governance, and development challenges in West Africa.

The researchers and experts of Sahel Academy

Mady Ibrahim Kanté holds two doctorates: one in political science, specializing in African studies, from Cairo University, and the other in governance and regional integration from the Pan-African University of Yaoundé. A teacher-researcher, he is actively involved in promoting peace and security, as well as countering terrorism and violent extremism, with a particular focus on the Sahel region and West Africa.
His recognized expertise in the fields of governance, security, conflict prevention and terrorist dynamics has enabled him to hold several academic and advisory positions across the African continent. He is Director of the Sahel Academy for Peace & Security Studies, a lecturer at the University of Legal and Political Sciences in Bamako, and an instructor at the Alioune Blondin Bèye Peacekeeping School, the National Police School and the Mali War College. He is also a member of the scientific committee of the African Journal on the Prevention and Fight against Terrorism at the African Centre for Studies and Research on Terrorism (CAERT) of the African Union. From 2019 to 2023, he was an expert member of the African Advisory Group on Science and Technology for Disaster Risk Reduction (Af-STAG-DRR) in Addis Ababa, under the aegis of the African Union.
Dr. Kanté has directed and supervised several research and consultancy projects. His work has contributed significantly to the development of security policies in Africa. His academic publications, available in Arabic, French and English, include six chapters in collective works, three books and 26 scientific articles published in specialized journals. Ahamat Tom (Public relations of Sahel Academy for Peace & Security Studies), from the Central African Republic, is a researcher with a focus on political, social, security, and peacebuilding issues in Central Africa. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Cairo University in Egypt. His research seeks to generate critical knowledge that deepens policymakers’ and practitioners’ understanding of local complexities in African contexts.
Through his academic work, Ahamat aims to develop realistic insights and effective strategies to support peacebuilding efforts and promote sustainable development in fragile areas of Central Africa.
As an affiliated member and public relations Secretaire of the Sahel Academy for Peace & Security Studies, he contributes to broadening the Academy’s regional scope by integrating perspectives from Central Africa, offering a complementary lens to Sahelian dynamics. He actively engages in strategic thinking on the intersection of governance, security, and social cohesion in transborder contexts.

Ousmane KEITA is a PhD candidate in International Relations at the Pedagogical University Institute of Bamako. He holds a Master’s degree in International Law from Wuhan University, China, where he studied self-determination and conflict resolution in Mali. As a lecturer at the University of Legal and Political Sciences of Bamako (FSAP), he teaches international law, geopolitics, humanitarian law, and international relations.
Ousmane has extensive experience in field research and academic consulting. He has collaborated with renowned organizations such as Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Save the Children, Helvetas, AFD, and the Peacekeeping School (EMP-ABB). His contributions cover topics such as youth participation, women's mediation in conflicts, local governance, and public perception of democracy in the Sahel.
As an affiliated researcher at Sahel Academy for Peace & Security Studies, Ousmane contributes to the Academy’s mission by bringing deep insights into migration governance, regional security, and development issues across West Africa. His work bridges academic analysis and practical recommendations, aimed at empowering communities and supporting evidence-based policymaking in fragile contexts.

Bouakary Ouattara is a PhD candidate in the History of International Relations at Félix Houphouët-Boigny University in Abidjan, specializing in public development aid. He holds a research Master's in International Relations History and teaches international relations, political science, and international development law at the Faculty of Administrative and Political Sciences (FSAP) and the Faculty of History and Geography in Bamako.
As Assistant-Coordinator of the Master's in Gender and Development, he contributes to curriculum development and academic research. He has taken part in several field research projects with organizations such as Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and RET Germany, addressing issues of security, community livelihoods, and food sovereignty.
As an affiliated researcher with the Sahel Academy for Peace & Security Studies, Bouakary brings valuable insights on development policy, international aid, and West African historical dynamics. His work critically examines the intersections of humanitarian assistance, sovereignty, and institutional governance in the Sahel. He regularly publishes on EU aid, development cooperation, and the political uses of history in African contexts, contributing to the Academy’s mission of producing evidence-based analysis for peace and sustainable governance.

Mahamadou A. TRAORE is a seasoned specialist in gender, peacebuilding, community engagement, and counter-terrorism. He holds a Master’s degree in Human Rights and has over seven years of experience designing and implementing multisectoral programs in conflict-affected areas across Mali and the Sahel. He has served as a lead trainer at the Alioune Blondin Bèye Peacekeeping School (EMP-ABB), focusing on mediation, civilian protection, civil-military coordination, and peace support operations.
Mahamadou is known for his fieldwork supporting vulnerable populations, strengthening community resilience, and fostering inclusive local leadership. He has also published impactful articles on governance, justice, youth, and violent extremism in Mali, combining academic insight with practical field-based approaches.
As an active member of the Sahel Academy for Peace & Security Studies, he contributes to advancing community-based security strategies, especially in the inclusion of women and youth in peace processes. His work embodies the Academy’s mission to promote sustainable peace through locally rooted, people-centered solutions in the Sahel region.
